Background
The binding of 2,3-DPG to deoxyhemoglobin in red blood cells stabilizes the spatial conformation of deoxyhemoglobin, thus reducing the affinity of hemoglobin to oxygen and promoting the dissociation of oxygen and hemoglobin. Especially when blood passes through tissues, the presence of 2,3-DPG in red blood cells can significantly increase the release of O2 for tissue needs. In addition, patients with severe obstructive pulmonary emphysema with pulmonary dyspnea and normal people can adjust the amount of tissue O 2 by changing the concentration of 2,3-DPG in red blood cells when they rise from sea level to high altitude or high altitude in a short time.
